ISMB/ECCB brings together scientists from computer science, molecular biology, mathematics, statistics and related fields focusing on advanced computational methods for biological problems. This year, ELIXIR will have a track programme focusing on FAIR for Data Infrastructures in collaboration with NIH ODSS.
Outcome of ELIXIR Heads of Nodes Retreat
We would like to thank Heads of Nodes for joining us this week in Prague for the ELIXIR Heads of Nodes Retreat. At the meeting, Heads of Nodes provided feedback on the draft 2024-28 Programme and ELIXIR EHDS and Cancer projects. Were also happy to announce that the emerging Research Data Management Community was formally established as an ELIXIR Community. Further updates were provided on ELIXIR Focus Groups, as well as updates from new and potential future ELIXIR Nodes.

Financial sustainability is a critical topic, and a key component of this is the sustainability and business models applied by ELIXIR services, especially in light of the principle that data, software and standards are free for users to access.
Physilia Chua joined ELIXIR Hub as a Senior Scientific Officer - Biodiversity. She will be working on ELIXIRs biodiversity-related projects and supporting the planning for the Biodiversity, Food Security and Pathogens theme in the new ELIXIR Scientific Programme.

Final Reminder! Extension of deadline - Request for nominations for open ExCo position
Heads of Nodes (HoNs) were informed via e-mail on 6 April that due to limited gender balance in the nominations received for the one open ExCo position in the Compute Platform, we have extended the deadline for nominations until Monday, 1 May.
On 13 April, ELIXIR and ELIXIR Netherlands held an Innovation and SME Forum focusing on machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) in health research with more than 60 participants from industry and academia.

ELIXIR Director announces departure at end of the current Scientific Programme
We would hereby like to inform you that Niklas Blomberg, Director of ELIXIR since its formation in 2013, announced this week that he will be stepping down from his role at the end of 2023, coinciding with the completion of the 2019-23 Scientific Programme. Niklas leaves to take up a new opportunity, having steered ELIXIR through two successive Scientific Programmes and multiple major EU-funded projects.
Expressions of Interest for Science Priority Area co-Leads
This years EBIF will focus on "Trusted research environment for sensitive data in the life sciences". The programme features a variety of presentations from industry and academia, offering the participants a chance to learn more about ELIXIR, relevant initiatives and research breakthroughs and outcomes.
