ELIXIR Communications Intern
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated intern to join the External Relations Team at the ELIXIR Hub. This position offers an exciting opportunity to gain experience in a communications role within a leading scientific infrastructure, and to make a real difference to our Communications Strategy. You will also interact with a range of individuals working within communications roles across Europe.
The intern will be involved in a range of activities and projects including:
- Research on best practices in evaluation of communications activities (ideally tailored to international organisations in research and development)
- Mapping existing practices in evaluating ELIXIR communications (types of metrics collected, monitoring of ongoing activities etc.) to best practices
- Benchmarking of communications practices in organisations similar to ELIXIR
- Developing recommendations for how to collect and evaluate communications metrics for (1) Social media communications, (2) Print publications, (3) Face-to-face outreach at conferences
- Developing a Communications toolkit for ELIXIR Nodes
- Creating content for the ELIXIR website
- Researching and sourcing visuals (photos, graphics) for ELIXIR communications materials (websites, reports, brochures)
- Supporting the development of ELIXIR slides (PowerPoint)
The internship is for a six-month period and will be based in ELIXIR Hub at the Wellcome Genome Campus located in Hinxton, 8 miles south of Cambridge. We offer a stimulating, international environment and an attractive campus connected to Cambridge via a free bus service. An allowance will be offered to the selected intern.
Qualification and experience
You will have a passion for communications and be working towards or have completed an undergraduate or Master’s degree in a related area (such as Science Communications, Marketing or Digital Media).
As a Communications Intern it is essential that you possess excellent written and oral communication skills and have strong interpersonal skills. You will need to be self-motivated, with excellent organisational abilities and attention to detail. You will be capable of working well as part of a team and use your initiative to come up with new ideas.
This is an intern position, and as such we expect you to be willing to take direction, ask questions and be eager to learn. In return, we will mentor you and work with you to expand you skill-set and to gain invaluable experience for your CV.
You will need to be proficient with the use of standard software packages such as Microsoft Office. Any knowledge of social media monitoring or previous marketing experience will be an advantage, although are not essential.
We are looking to cover a 39 hour working week, Monday to Friday. Some occasional travel to events may be required.

Coordinator - ELIXIR Compute Platform
We are seeking to recruit a Coordinator for the ELIXIR Compute Platform. You will join the ELIXIR Hub team located alongside the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) at the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.
The Coordinator - ELIXIR Compute Platform is the technical lead and product manager for the ELIXIR Compute Platform. You work closely with and support our international scientific leadership team for the Compute Platform. Your main task will be to provide day-to-day management and coordination for the platform and ensure that strategic roadmaps and operational plans are in place. The role drives the development and implementation of a project portfolio to support ELIXIR Compute Resources. The role holder works closely with scientists and technical experts in the ELIXIR Compute Platform, which is formed by services drawn from our 180 partner institutes across the 21 ELIXIR Nodes. You will ensure interoperability and long-term development of ELIXIR’s Compute resources. You will oversee our technical planning, implementation, document progress and impact assessment by establishing and monitoring performance, quality and impact indicators.
The role closely collaborates with overall ELIXIR programme coordination, project management and external relations functions at the ELIXIR Hub. The role holder will collate operational outcome, and report on progress to the Director, the Heads of Nodes group, and other internal and external stakeholders as appropriate.
